RE: 1988 Country Coach - thoughts?

Look at Foretravel they do backup their older models and you can find them at a reasonable price. If I was to buy a diesel it would be a Foretravel.

RE: Any Fulltimers Under Age 50?

I started full-timing at 23 when I found out I had cancer and couldn't work so I got a 30' Teton 5er with a Chevy, got married and continued for 5 years before we settled down, adopted 2 sons and got into retail management. Now I'm 44 and DW's 38, our sons are out on their own, we left the retail business and our house had a nice equity built up so we sold it and bought a Bounder and went back to our first love fulltiming.

RE: 1988 Country Coach - thoughts?

Here's a word of caution, My father-in-law is a parts manager at a Kenworth Dealer in Portland, Or. when a Country Coach came to the shop because of a problem with the suspension. When he called CC for parts he was told they don't carry parts for coaches older then 8 years. So they had to make the part in house that turned out very expensive. This happened about 5 years ago so things could have changed but I doubt it, since most of their clients trade off their coaches within 5 years anyways-That is what was mentioned at the CC rally 2 weeks ago in Albany.

RE: Dave Ramsey says owning a RV is STUPID!

Really what recreational hobby makes financial sense, snow skiing, sailing, a week at WDW, having a nice meal in New York City, all these thing will cost you dearly, for what? Simply put our enjoyment we pay for things we enjoy, so RVing costs more, big deal, we enjoy it. If we all started to do things based on financial sense then we would all be bored and many towns & cities will just have to fold up because they depend on tourism. Here in the U.S our economy has alot to do with recreation pursuits the day we stop enjoying ourselves will be a day that the economy will totally fail JMHO

Good Sam ERS, here's my experance.

Recently I was westbound on I-40 40 miles east of Barstow, Ca. at 4:10pm my "new" inside dually blew out taking the outside tire with it so I had 2 flats. I got over as far as I could, put out my emergency triangles and called Good Sam ERS telling them I also needed the tire service to bring another tire, that I would pay for because I only have 1 spare. The Good Sam Rep. we will call her GSR, said she will call about our tire and get someone out soon. Meanwhile it's getting dark and the truckers are coming really close to us making my DW very nervous! 30 mins later the GPR calls telling us she isn't finding anyone to come yet but will still try. So we watched a movie to get our minds off the trucks. AFTER the movie GPR called again telling us that she can't get anyone to come, and she is going to call the CHP for help, I am livid! What am I paying for! So I called Progressive (I'm triple covered) they said they can have a truck here in 2 hours with a spare, while on the phone with them GPR called back saying she has someone coming but without a spare, since I have a tag axle I decided to do it and I will limp to Barstow. 40 mins latter the service truck came, he told us that the ERS hasn't been paying their bills and he would only come if they gave him a credit card number first, thus many won't work for them anymore plus he had my spare but wasn't told we needed it! Well, that's my shortest version of the story. Thanks for listiening

RE: Quartzsite Arizona??

I went there this January, the last time I was there was in the 80's. It is a overgrown town, hard to park, long lines at the restaurants, overpriced ($4 for a small ice cream cone) food, and there's alot of things there that I don't see any serious RVer buying. Alot as changed through the years. Been there, done that.....

RE: Good Sam, to renew or not to renew, that is the question!

I agree with the others, Good Sam is only really good at sending junk mail and I had a bad experiance with their ERS just 2 weeks ago near Barstow Ca.

RE: Short Class A DP

I know you are looking at pushers but Triple E makes a 32'7" Commander with a front diesel with 22" wheels and 2 slides might be worth the look.

RE: Camping and attractions near texas.

Try Jefferson Texas with an old town soda fountain and a steamboat ride on a swampy Caddo Lake. If you want a resort atmosphere try Whispering Pines RV Resort near Tyler Texas. For more of an adventure there's tubin' and canoeing down the Mountain Folk river just to the east of Broken Bow OK. it's alot nicer then the Guadeloupe River. For more information just PM me.

RE: First Long Trip

You can do it just remember driving the East Coast ain't like driving Texas, well maybe like driving Dallas/Fort Worth for hundreds of miles. So plan on anything happening as you go thru the cities. I'm not sure which route your planning to take but the Atlanta area is RV unfriendly and the traffic there is awful, I would avoid that city.

RE: Driving a Diesel Pusher

The price doesn't sound bad, and wait till you drive that coach it will spoil you from that Class C, power, comfort, handling, just remember your longer then you used to be and you will need alittle more room on those right hand turns. Just do some parking lot practicing to get used to your size you'll do fine.

RE: Camping World wants $49.00 to check your tire pressure

It just goes to show that Camping World is not a service oriented company. It is profit oriented and probably does not let local managers make decisions. Wouldn't it have been great if that service manager checked those tires for free? Even if it cost him 15-30 minutes of one person's time? Wouldn't you have left feeling good about Camping World instead of going to the most popular RV web site (owned and operated by the parent of Camping World) and letting the whole RV world know that you feel like Camping World is just looking out for the dollar instead of their customers? Wouldn't you feel like that would be the place to go for service work? Unfortuanately, they blew it. And I'll bet it's not just the few dollars that you didn't pay to have your tires checked that they will lose. They just lost all of my future service work and I'm sure there are other folks who feel the same as me.
KUDOS I couldn't have said it better myself. I was in retail management for 9 years and you hit the whole service point right on the nose.

RE: Yosemite Trailer Length ?

They are very strict! I have a tent trailer and they demanded that my unfolded length be accurate and said if I was longer then stated I forfeited the site. Yosemite Valley's campground situation is terrible.
